What We Engrave and How

On Wood: The laser burns away a thin layer of the surface, creating a darkened impression that contrasts against the natural grain. Clean, precise, and permanent.

On Marble: The laser removes the polished surface layer, exposing the lighter raw stone beneath. Subtle, frosted appearance that is elegant without being loud.

We engrave the board edges (front and sides), not the playing surface. The most common placement is the front edge facing the white side, but all four edges are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you engrave a chess set I already own?
Yes, if the board is wood or marble and you can ship it to us. We will engrave it and return it within 5-7 business days.
Is the engraving permanent?
Yes. Laser engraving physically alters the material surface. It will not fade, wear off, or rub away under normal use.
Can you engrave images or logos?
Yes. We accept vector files (SVG, AI, EPS) for logo engraving. Raster images (JPG, PNG) can be used if they are high resolution (300+ DPI).
Do you engrave individual chess pieces?
Not at this time. The curved surfaces and small scale of chess pieces make laser engraving impractical without distortion. Board engraving is our specialty.
Can I see a proof before you engrave?
Always. We send a digital mockup showing the exact text, font, size, and placement on your specific board material. You approve it before we fire the laser.
